POS Cafe Product Update - November 2025

We have been busy behind the scenes and have some important updates to share, including new features you can start using now, what is coming next, and a few key dates to note.

New Features and Functionality

1. Order Types for Order Tickets and Online Ordering

We are about to release a new Order Types feature that lets you define the different order types your business supports, such as:

  • For Here For Here
  • To Go To Go
  • Pickup Pickup
  • Drive Thru Drive Thru
  • Delivery Delivery
  • Curbside Curbside

These Order Types will appear:

  • At the top of Order Tickets and KDS
  • In Online Ordering

They will also form part of some bigger functionality we are planning for next year, including tax overrides.

Per item Order Types

Order Types can be set per item, so a single order can mix types. For example:

A customer can order a Coffee - For Here and a Sandwich - To Go in the same order.

When is this coming?

We have enabled the admin side of Order Types now so you can get ready.

The full Order Types functionality will roll out on Wednesday, 26 November 2025.

Action: set up your Order Types now

By default, all locations have been set to accept For Here and To Go.

You can customise which Order Types each location offers by following these steps:

  1. Log into your Shopify admin, and go to Apps > POS Cafe.
  2. Click on Locations in the POS Cafe menu.
  3. Choose the location you would like to manage.
  4. In the Order Types section, enable or disable the types you offer at that location.
  5. (Optional) Choose which Order Type should be the default for that location.

These settings will be used as soon as the feature goes live on Wednesday, 26 November 2025.

2. Show and hide collections by sales channel

In line with recent Shopify API changes, you now have more control over where your Cafe Collections appear.

You can show or hide collections on POS and Online Ordering by enabling or disabling the Sales Channels for each collection in Shopify.

For example:

  • To hide a collection from Online Ordering, turn off the Online or Online Store sales channel for that collection.
  • To hide a collection from your POS Cafe tile on POS, turn off the Point of Sale sales channel for that collection.

You can find more detail about this in our knowledgebase.

3. Powerful features you might have missed

There are a few recently added features that many merchants still are not using, and they can make a big difference to your workflow.

Multiple receipt printers and item routing

You can connect multiple receipt printers in different areas of your store and automatically route items from each order to the correct prep station.

For example:

  • Drinks can be sent to a barista printer.
  • Food can be sent to a kitchen printer.
  • Grab and go items can be sent to a front counter printer.

Please note that this works with certain Epson and Star Micronics hardware only.

More details are available in our knowledgebase:

Fresh KDS integration

You can upgrade your kitchen workflow with our integration with Fresh KDS, a full featured and robust kitchen display screen platform with the advanced features needed for busy cafes and restaurants.

Instead of juggling paper dockets, orders can be displayed digitally on kitchen or barista screens for clearer communication and faster service.

Different menus per location

If you operate multiple locations, you can give each one a different menu display on your Shopify POS devices.

  • Hide items that a particular location does not offer.
  • Feature location specific specials.
  • Keep each cafe layout tailored to what that site actually serves.

Empower customers to order from table or home

You can empower your customers to order your cafe items:

  • From the table on their own device.
  • From home for immediate pickup.

All of this is available via our Online Ordering functionality, fully integrated with POS Cafe.

Open tabs and cheques for dine in

You can create open tabs or cheques for dine in customers so they can:

  • Keep their order open while they add items over time.
  • Pay once at the end of their visit.

This is ideal for table service and regulars who like to stay and add extras as they go.

Upcoming New Features and Functionality

1. Online Ordering v2.0

We are getting close to launching Online Ordering v2.0, a major upgrade that includes:

  • A date and time picker for scheduled orders.
  • Much more control over your opening hours.
  • The ability to block off specific days when you are not available.
  • A brand new design, rebuilt from the ground up.

Plus much more that we are excited to share soon.

2. Item editing in the cart

We know that one of the most frustrating aspects of POS Cafe is the inability to edit an item once it is in the cart.

This is next up on our roadmap and is coming soon.

You will soon be able to:

  • Tap an item in the cart.
  • Adjust options such as modifiers and notes.
  • Save your changes without needing to remove and re add the item.

3. Individual item order tickets

We are also working on the ability for you to set up receipt printers that print each item onto an individual ticket.

This is perfect for sticky label printers, so you can stick an individual order ticket directly onto each cup or item.
