Use this guide to set up and manage Order Types in your Shopify POS Cafe app, allowing you to define different order types like For Here, To Go, Pickup, and more.
What are Order Types?
Order Types allow you to clearly indicate how an order should be fulfilled. This information appears at the top of Order Tickets and on your KDS, ensuring your team knows exactly how to prepare and package each order.
Supported Order Types include:
- For Here
- To Go
- Pickup
- Drive Thru
- Delivery
- Curbside
Step 1: Configure Order Types per Location
By default, all locations are set to accept For Here and To Go. You can customize which Order Types each location offers.
- Log into your Shopify admin, and go to Apps > POS Cafe.
- Click on Locations in the POS Cafe menu.
- Choose the location you would like to manage.
- In the Order Types section, enable or disable the types you offer at that location.
Step 2: Set a Default Order Type
You can choose which Order Type should be selected by default for new orders at each location. This speeds up the checkout process for your most common order type.
- In the same Locations settings page.
- Locate the Default Order Type setting.
- Select your preferred default (e.g., "For Here" or "To Go").
- Click Save.
Per-Item Order Types
Order Types can be set per item, giving you the flexibility to mix types within a single order. This is perfect for customers who want to enjoy a drink in the cafe but take a sandwich to go.
For example, a single order can contain:
- Coffee - For Here
- Sandwich - To Go
