Star CloudPRNT

Use this guide to configure your Star receipt printer for CloudPRNT via your Shopify POS Cafe app.

What is Star CloudPRNT

Star CloudPRNT is a web-based printing protocol supported on select Star printers that allows your device to fetch receipt jobs directly from the POS Cafe server over HTTP.

Prerequisites

  • Star CloudPRNT-capable receipt printer (see above)
  • Printer connected to your local network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi
  • A computer on the same network with a web browser
  • Printer serial number (default admin password) - sticker under the back cover or bottom plate
  • Your Shopify POS Cafe admin credentials

Step 1: Configure in Shopify POS Cafe

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Apps > POS Cafe > Locations.
  2. Select your location and click Receipt Printers.
  3. Click Add Printer Device:
    • Name: e.g., Star Printer
    • Prep Areas: select one or more stations
  4. Click Save.

Step 2: Print the Network Configuration Sheet

  1. Power off the printer using its main switch.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Press and hold the FEED button, and turn the printer back on.
  4. Continue pressing the FEED button until the network configuration sheet prints.
  5. The network configuration sheet will print. (Can take up to 30 seconds.)

Locate the IP Address on the sheet - this is your printer's network address.


Step 3: Access the Printer's Web Portal

  1. Open a web browser on your computer.
  2. Enter http://<PRINTER_IP_ADDRESS> in the address bar.
  3. Press Enter to load the settings page.

Step 4: Administrator Login & CloudPRNT Settings

1. Click Login:

3. Click CloudPRNT on the menu:

Step 5: Link Printer to Server Direct Print

  1. Choose Enable from the dropdown list under CloudPRNT Service;
  2. Copy the Server URL from POS Cafe and paste it into the printer's Server URL field;
  3. Copy the Username from POS Cafe and paste into the printer's User Name field;
  4. Copy the Password from POS Cafe and paste into the printer's Password field;
  5. Click Submit.

Step 6: Saving Your Settings

1. Click Save:

3. Close browser and wait for printer to reboot:

Step 7: Verify Prep Area Assignments

In Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections and ensure each item is assigned to the correct prep area.

Step 8: Test Printing

  1. Open POS Cafe on your POS device.
  2. Add a product with modifiers and complete checkout.
  3. Add another product assigned to a different prep area and checkout again.
  4. Confirm separate receipts print for each prep area.

Printing Speed & Latency

Note: Star printers poll for new jobs every 5 seconds by default. Due to webhook and network delays, it may take 5-10 seconds for an order to print from POS checkout.


Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Config Sheet Not Printing Ensure the printer is powered and networked; hold FEED during power-on.
Cannot Access Web Interface Verify the IP address and that your computer is on the same subnet.
Login Fails Use the printer's serial number as password; find it on the sticker.
Print Jobs Not Received Check CloudPRNT is enabled and that URL, username, and password match POS Cafe settings.
Print Errors Review logs under Maintenance → Logs in the Web Interface; restart the printer afterward.
Factory Reset Hold FEED for 5 seconds at power-on to restore defaults.
