Changes in September 2026

New features

  • Send to prep: A new Send to prep tile in Shopify POS sends the items in the current order to your printers and Fresh KDS before the customer pays, ideal for table service and open tabs. When you send again, or when the customer pays, only new or changed items go to prep. Add it from Add tile → POS Cafe → Send to prep. Learn how Send to prep works.
  • Cloudshelf kiosks: POS Cafe now works with Cloudshelf, a Shopify sales channel app for self-service kiosks. Kiosks show each location’s POS Cafe menu with its modifiers, and kiosk orders print or reach Fresh KDS at the right prep areas. Set up Cloudshelf.
  • Live menu data and sold-out updates: An optional setting that stops online ordering and Cloudshelf kiosks selling items that have run out at a location within seconds, and brings them back within about 15 minutes of restocking. Turn it on in Settings → General Online Ordering Settings or Settings → Integrations → Cloudshelf. Learn more.
  • Print from Shopify POS: A new Shopify POS (Printing API) printer type prints Send to prep and order tickets from the POS device itself, using a printer already connected to Shopify POS. It needs Shopify POS 11.11.0 or later. Set up Shopify POS printing.
  • Vehicle details for Drive Thru and Curbside: Online customers ordering Drive Thru or Curbside can now add their vehicle make, model and colour, and tickets print a large “Vehicle:” line so staff find the right car. It’s on by default and can be turned off per location. Learn more.

Order tickets & KDS

  • Redesigned Receipt printers page: Add and manage Epson and Star printers from one page, with a summary for each location, clear status badges and each printer’s setup details ready to copy. See the new page.
  • Pause a printer: Pause a printer while it’s out of paper or being moved. New orders don’t print on it while it’s paused; tickets that were already waiting print when you resume (if they’re less than a day old), and you can clear waiting tickets at any time. The Receipt printers page also warns you if pausing would leave a prep area with no printer.
  • Send to prep improvements: The tile now explains what it’s doing and what to do next, Check printer setup again refreshes a location’s printers without leaving POS (and POS checks again by itself when it’s reopened), and you can re-send an order to prep after checkout.
  • Never a missed ticket: If POS Cafe can’t confirm what the Send to prep tile already sent, the order prints at checkout anyway. A repeated ticket is always better than a missing one.
  • Table and notes on prep tickets: Send to prep tickets show the table and any cart notes, so the kitchen knows where each order is going.
  • Cart reference and ticket numbers: Send to prep tickets and Fresh KDS cards show a cart reference and ticket number (for example “Cart #ABCDEF - Ticket 2”), so staff can match later sends to the same order. The tile also warns you if the cart note has changed since an earlier ticket.
  • Variant details: Descriptions for native Shopify variants now appear on receipts and Fresh KDS.
  • Individual tickets: Print Individual Receipts now prints one ticket per unit, so a quantity of 2 prints two tickets, and it also applies to Send to prep and Native Product Routing items. Progress is tracked on Epson and Star printers, so an interrupted batch picks up where it left off without reprinting.
  • Consistent routing: Printers and Fresh KDS now share the same location routing, so every order reaches the same prep areas on both.

Online Ordering

  • Customer name on items: Turn on Show customer name field in your online ordering settings to let customers add a name to each item, for example when ordering for a group. The name shows on Fresh KDS with the table.
  • Menu publishing warnings: Location settings pages now warn you if a menu update doesn’t publish, so you can try again straight away.
  • Theme fix: Fixed a styling clash between the online ordering product window and some Shopify themes.

Admin

  • Line item attributes: A new setting under Settings chooses whether POS Cafe’s routing and table attributes show on cart items, for custom receipt rules, or are kept as hidden Shopify properties. Show is the default, so existing receipts don’t change.

Performance & fixes

  • Menu health checks: The regular menu check now covers kiosk menus and sold-out lists too, and out-of-date menu data is repaired automatically.
  • Recovery improvements: Send to prep and printing now recover more reliably after brief connection or service interruptions.
  • Printer backlog recovery: If one printer’s ticket queue is full, your other printers still print straight away, and the full printer keeps retrying for up to 30 minutes instead of giving up, without reprinting tickets other printers already received.
  • Special characters on tickets: Customer names, notes and vehicle details with unusual characters no longer scramble or cut short a printed ticket.
