Open orders allow you to take orders (sometimes multiple orders) from customers prior to payment. They are also known as open cheques and sometimes table management. Use this guide to understand how you may achieve open orders using POS Cafe.
POS Cafe utilizes Shopify's Draft Order functionality to manage open orders and is only possible using our Fresh KDS integration or POS Cafe's external receipt printer functionality. This is not compatible with Shopify POS's inbuilt receipts.
Step 1: Add the Draft Order Tile
- Tap Add tile → Action → Save as draft then tap Save.

Step 2: Create Your Tables As Customers
- Tap the customer icon in Shopify POS.
- Tap +
- Enter Table in First Name and the table number in Last Name and tap Save.

Step 3: To Start an Open Order
- Tap Add customer to add the relevant Table to the cart.
- Add items to the cart using the POS Cafe tile.
- When this part of the order is complete, tap Save as draft.

If you're using Fresh KDS or POS Cafe's external receipt printer functionality the order will automatically display or print to your connected receipt printer/s when you tap Save as draft. This functionality is NOT COMPATIBLE with Shopify POS's inbuilt receipts.
Step 4: Editing or Managing an Open Order
- Tap Load draft to open a previously saved order.
- Add more products as desired, then tap Update draft.

If you're using Fresh KDS or POS Cafe's external receipt printer functionality the new items on the order will automatically display or print to your connected receipt printer/s when you tap Save as draft. This functionality is NOT COMPATIBLE with Shopify POS's inbuilt receipts.
Step 5: Checking Out an Open Order
- Tap Load draft to open a previously saved order.
- Tap Checkout to checkout as normal.

If you're wishing to take a split payment from the table, this may be achieved with Shopify's Split payment functionality. Learn more here.
