Steps to set up collections in Shopify
Step 1
Under 'Products' on the left navigation in Shopify admin, click 'Collections'
Step 2
You may choose to remove the default 'Home page' collection. This can be done by checking the box next to it, clicking the 3 ellipses at the top right, and clicking 'Delete collection'.
Step 3
Now you are ready to enter your collections. Click 'Create collection'.
Creating a manual collection
A manual collection is one where you manage the products that are assigned to the collection by physically adding each one from either the collection or product page.
Step 1
Enter a title for your collection, and ensure the radio button next to 'Manual' is selected.
Step 2
Click 'Manage' next to Publishing to ensure this collection is only available on the sales channels where you want your products to be sold, for example, Point of Sale.
Step 3
Don't forget to press 'Save' at the top of the page.
Step 4
Once your collection has been saved, a new 'Products' box will appear. Click 'Browse' to assign products to this collection.
Step 5
Search for the products you wish to add to this collection, check the box next to each, then click 'Add'.
Step 6
The products will now appear in the 'Products' box in the order they will be displayed. If you wish to edit the order to your preference, click in the 'Sort: Best selling' box & change it to 'Manually'. You may now click and drag the order of products in this collection.
Creating an automated collection
An automated collection is one where you give Shopify conditions to manage the products that are assigned to that collection. Whenever a new product is entered that meets those conditions, or the conditions of a product change to not meet the requirements, it will automatically enter or be excluded from the collection.
Step 1
Enter a title for your collection, and ensure the radio button next to 'Automated' is selected.
Step 2
Set your conditions for products to be automatically added to this collection, for example 'Product tag' 'is equal to' 'Coffee'. Remember, these tags must match exactly the tags you use on your products.
Step 3
Click 'Manage' next to Publishing to ensure this collection is only available on the sales channels where you want your products to be sold, for example, Point of Sale.
Step 4
Don't forget to press 'Save' at the top of the page.
Step 5
The products will now appear in the 'Products' box in the order they will be displayed. If you wish to edit the order to your preference, click in the 'Sort: Best selling' box & change it to 'Manually'. You may now click and drag the order of products in this collection.
