App Overview

POS Cafe allows products that require multiple options or modifications, such as barista drinks, to be easily managed and sold via Shopify POS.

POS Cafe offers the ability to change and ‘add on’ modifications at Point of Sale, using the POS Cafe or POS Cafe - Lite tile. See Using the App in Shopify POS.

POS Cafe allows product modifications to be printed on order tickets and receipts, and sent to Fresh KDS, for ease of use of baristas and cafe staff.

The POS Cafe menu in your Shopify admin has these pages: Shop Information (the app’s home page, where setup warnings appear), Modifier Sets, Prep Areas, Cafe Discounts, Cafe Collections, Locations and Settings.

  • In POS Cafe, modifier sets house options that can be applied to products. For example, modifier set titles may be groups of options like ‘milk’, ‘heat’ or ‘other options’.
  • Within modifier sets, merchants add modifier options that may be used to customise their POS products, such as ‘Full Cream’, ‘Skim’ and ‘Soy’.
  • Modifier options may be configured to incur an additional charge.
  • You may record a SKU for each modifier option. SKUs count in inventory and reports only for items sold with the POS Cafe tile; see POS Cafe vs POS Cafe - Lite.
  • Modifier sets can be configured to accept a single modifier option (i.e. ‘Full Cream Milk’) or multiple options (i.e. ‘Sugar’ AND ‘Marshmallows’), and a selection can be required or optional.
  • A modifier set can be assigned to more than one product, and products may have multiple modifier sets assigned to them.

See Modifier Sets Page.

  • Prep areas allow you to configure different food preparation areas within your business (such as ‘barista’, ‘kitchen’ and ‘sandwich bar’).
  • Prep areas are assigned to cafe items, and to your receipt printers and Fresh KDS screens, so each item is sent to the right place.
  • Create discounts (fixed amount or percentage) that staff can apply to individual items from the POS Cafe tile. See Cafe Discounts.
  • POS Cafe uses Shopify product management to create your initial, unmodified products and to sort them into the collections you will use in POS Cafe. See Adding Products and Setting Up Collections.
  • In the POS Cafe app, merchants add the Shopify collections containing the products that require modification.
  • Products requiring no modification (i.e. café products such as pre-packaged drinks, etc) do not need to be added to POS Cafe, rather can be sold directly in the Shopify POS system. If you want some of these products to print on your order tickets or appear on Fresh KDS, see Native Product Routing.
  • From the Cafe Collections page you can click into each of your cafe collections and assign modifier sets & prep areas to your products one-by-one or in bulk.
  • Activate a POS Cafe license for each location, and set up its store hours, menu, order types, devices (Fresh KDS screens and receipt printers), tables and online ordering. See Locations.
  • The Settings page holds the POS tile options, online ordering settings, integrations (Fresh KDS, Zapiet, Cloudshelf), the admin settings POS Cafe relies on (your sales channels and the modifier collection, where modifier sets are stored as Shopify products), and your account. See General Settings.
