Upgrading from POS Cafe Online (Old)

POS Cafe has two online ordering theme blocks: the current POS Cafe Online block and the older POS Cafe Online (Old) block. If your ordering page still uses the old block, replace it with POS Cafe Online in the theme editor.

  1. In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes → Customize.
  2. Open the page where customers order (for example, your “Order” page).
  3. Look at the block name in the theme editor sidebar:
    • POS Cafe Online is the current block. There’s nothing to do.
    • POS Cafe Online (Old) is the old block. Its settings start with the heading “Old version - do not use” and a note asking you to use the POS Cafe Online block instead.

Select the POS Cafe Online (Old) block and note its settings. The new block doesn’t use them, so you’ll set their equivalents again:

Old block setting Where it lives now
Time Slot Interval Time Slot Interval in Settings → General Online Ordering Settings (POS Cafe app)
Preparation Time (minutes) Prep Time (minutes) in Settings → General Online Ordering Settings
Show Cart Note Field Show cart note field in Settings → General Online Ordering Settings
Require Table/Customer Name for dine-in Require table name / number in Settings → General Online Ordering Settings
Accent Color Primary / accent color under Colors on the new block
Collection Navigation Layout Menu navigation style under Layout on the new block (the collection tabs sit above the products)
Custom CSS Custom CSS under Advanced on the new block
Show Debug Information (Advanced) Show debug information under Advanced on the new block

The old Theme Variant and Color Scheme settings have no direct equivalent. Use the new block’s Layout, Colors and Element Colors settings instead.

  1. Add the new block. On the same page in the theme editor, choose Add section / block and select POS Cafe Online.
  2. Set it up. Enter the equivalents of your old settings from the table above, in the new block and in Settings → General Online Ordering Settings.
  3. Remove the old block. Remove the POS Cafe Online (Old) block from the page.
  4. Save the theme.
  5. Check your ordering page URL. In Settings → General Online Ordering Settings, make sure Online ordering page URL is the full URL of this page, so table QR codes point to it.
  6. Test an order. Open the page on your store, add an item and go through to checkout.
